The Bar Council Cyber and Privacy Laws Committee is organising a webinar on remote witnessing, as an introduction and an overview of the Rules and Rulings of the Bar Council for virtual or remote attestation or witnessing or execution of a document.  It aims to provide participants with a pragmatic overview of remote witnessing, and the processes involved.

The webinar will also cover the evolution of witnessing through digital advancements, including electronic signatures and digital signatures.

The speaker will also provide some insights into technology laws in Malaysia and recent developments.

Speaker

Sathish Mavath Ramachandran

Member, Bar Council Cyber and Privacy Laws Committee

Sathish Mavath Ramachandran read law and graduated in 1992 from the University of Kent at Canterbury.  In 1993, he qualified as a Barrister from Middle Temple.  He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1994.  Apart from corporate advisory, governance, and compliance work, his experiences include venture capital and private equity investments; mergers and acquisitions; corporate finance and capital markets; property and construction; technology; conveyancing and banking.  He has over 30 years of extensive experience in corporate and commercial law.

He is currently a member of the Bar Council Conveyancing Practice Committee; Bar Council Corporate and Commercial Law Committee; Bar Council Cyber and Privacy Laws Committee; Bar Council Legal Technologies, Artificial Intelligence & Sandbox Committee; Bar Council Ad-Hoc Committee on Personal Data Protection; and the Bar Council Ageing Rights Advisory Committee.

He is also a member of the Corporate & Conveyancing Practice Committee and Professional Development Committee of the Kuala Lumpur Bar.  He is a member of the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board, a statutory regulator.  He is a member of MAICSA’s Disciplinary Committee investigation group.

 

Moderator

Jonathan Charles Anthony

Legal Associate, J Ganesan Tajul Anuar & Co.

Jonathan obtained his Bachelor of Laws from Aberystwyth University, and thereafter completed his Certificate of Legal Practice.

Jonathan’s practice mainly centers on general civil litigation.  He has acted in a wide variety of cases including, intellectual property disputes, corporate litigation, professional liability, land disputes, family law matters and constitutional law cases.

He is a member of the Bar Council Corporate and Commercial Law Committee and Bar Council Cyber and Privacy Laws Committee.

Jonathan has a passion for all things involving the intersection of technology and law and is enthusiastic about exploring innovative legal solutions in this rapidly evolving field.

Terms and Conditions

Event Policy

Places are limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

For events with registration fees, all payments must be made in advance, including bank charges. Registration will be confirmed once proof of payment is provided by email or fax, and full payment is received.

For events that are not organised by Bar Council, please note that you are subject to the relevant terms and conditions specified by the external providers.

Cancellation 

Cancellations must be made in writing.

If you have failed to inform the organiser on your cancellation for three consecutive times, you may be blacklisted for future events.

Refunds 

Refunds will be processed after the event is completed. This may take up to 30 business days. The conditions for refunds are as follows:

  • Full refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled or postponed by the organiser due to some circumstances.
  • No refunds for this course. However substitution is allowed.

The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.

Transferral

You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details.

Attendance 

CPD points will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.

Privacy 

The personal information that you provide to the Bar Council, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded, stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Bar Council for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event, and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
