In this workshop, you will discover the foundation of the process for civil litigation, how to reduce risks related to litigation, and how to deal with claims and complaints from your clients.

The speaker — Arthur Wang Ming Way — will guide participants on how to reduce the chances of mistakes and oversights that could lead to a negligence claim. The areas that will be covered include the necessary preparations when representing a client, factors to consider when a claim arises, and the importance of maintaining proper filing and records.

Dato' Arthur Wang Ming Way

Arthur Wang Ming Way obtained his LLB from the University of Wales, United Kingdom in 1990. He was admitted to the Bar at Middle Temple, London in 1992 and began his pupillage with a Middle Temple chamber under the guidance of Queen Counsel Esq Gibson Grenfell. Upon his return to Malaysia in 1994, he commenced pupillage with Raja, Darryl & Loh. He then joined Michael Chen & Lee as the head of the litigation department in 1995. His experience covers foreclosures, banking, civil and commercial litigation, contract disputes, tort, matrimonial and probate matters, bankruptcy proceedings, land and contractual disputes, injunctions as well as appellate matters in the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court. In 1997, he established the present practice of Arthur Wang, Lian & Associates.

 

He is an active Member of the Malaysian Bar and has been involved in the Bar Council Professional Indemnity Insurance Committee since 2004 (in 2024, the committee was renamed to Bar Council Professional Indemnity Committee). He has also been involved in various risk management activities and given talks on the subject for the Bar with the aim of raising the standards of risk management in the legal profession. In 2022, when the Bar Council established a dedicated Risk Management Committee, he was assigned as the Co-Chairperson and now sits as the sole Chairperson of the Committee. The Committee focuses on improving the management of risks among legal practitioners and instilling elements of good governance among law practices with the aim of reducing negligence claims and complaints.

Terms and Conditions

Event Policy
Places are limited and registration is on a first come, first served basis. The registration for this session will close on 29 July 2025 (Tuesday), at 12:00 pm.

For events with registration fees, all payments must be made in advance, including bank charges. Registration will be confirmed once proof of payment is provided by email or fax, and full payment is received.

The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.

Cancellation
Cancellations must be made in writing.

Please note that there will be no refunds for cancellations, but substitutions are allowed. Kindly inform us in writing with the relevant details at least three days in advance.

If you have failed to inform the organiser on your cancellation for three consecutive times, you may be blacklisted for future events.

Transferral
You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details at least three days in advance.

Attendance
CPD points for CPD Scheme will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.

Privacy
The personal information that you provide to the Malaysian Bar, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded, stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Malaysian Bar for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event, and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
