Client Account Campaign Talk: Part II @ Kuala Lumpur

Description

As part of the Client Account Campaign that was launched on 21 June 2025, which can be viewed here, the Bar Council Risk Management Committee is organising a series of focused talks aimed at promoting awareness and best practices in managing client accounts. Through this initiative, lawyers would be able to better understand the responsibilities of being a sole proprietor or partner and manage client accounts prudently.

The talk is divided into the following three parts, which may be conducted in any sequence, provided all parts are completed:

Speaker

Tan Keng Teck

Tan Keng Teck graduated from the University of Glamorgan with an LLB (Hons) in 1992. He obtained his Certificate of Legal Practice from the University of Malaya and chambered at Lim Kian Leong & Co. He joined the firm as an advocate and solicitor in Nov 1994 and is now a partner of the firm.

He is also a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board and his area of practice is compulsory acquisition. Keng Teck also practises financial litigation, commercial litigation, corporate litigation and property law.

 

Heron Goh

Heron Goh read law at the University of Wolverhampton and soon after obtained his Master’s degree in Business Administration (Finance) from the University of Hull. With his interest and exposure in arbitration as well as dispute resolution, Heron has been admitted into the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators (“SIArb”) as an associate member. He is also a licensed member of the Federation of Malaysian Unit Trust Managers and The Malaysian Insurance Institute.

He started his career at RKT Tax Services Sdn Bhd. After four years, he joined Usaha Korporat Tax Services Sdn Bhd and was involved in tax compliance, advisory, audit, management, and planning for more than 26 years in various industries including manufacturing, trading, construction, plantation, communication services, charitable societies, and public transportation. He actively gives talks to Members of the Bar on tax and accounting matters and has served as an advisor to several public listed companies. He joined MustaphaRaj in March 2016

 

R Jayabalan

R Jayabalan graduated with an LLB (Hons) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (“IIUM”) in 1996. Jaya also obtained a postgraduate Masters in Business Administration from IIUM in 2005. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in April 1997.

Jaya has been an active civil trial and appellate litigator since 1997. He has conducted trials and appeals before all levels
of courts in Malaysia. Jaya's main areas of practice include, among others, professional liability, commercial / contract
claims, employment, tort, and land disputes.

Jaya is a Bar Council Member and is currently serving as the Treasurer of the Malaysian Bar and Chairperson of the Bar Council Finance Committee. He is also the Bar Representative of the Johore Bar, Chairperson of the Bar Council Joint Working Committee on ELEVATE — the official risk management programme of the Malaysian Bar — and Co Chairperson of the Bar Council Constitutional Law Committee. He actively speaks in seminars and trainings for Members of the Bar on issues of law and on matters of interest to the legal profession in the country.

Terms and Conditions

Event Policy
Places are limited and registration is on a first come, first served basis. The registration for this session will close on 23 September 2025 (Tuesday), at 12:00 pm.

For events with registration fees, all payments must be made in advance, including bank charges. Registration will be confirmed once proof of payment is provided by email or fax, and full payment is received.

The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.

Cancellation
Cancellations must be made in writing.

Please note that there will be no refunds for cancellations, but substitutions are allowed. Kindly inform us in writing with the relevant details at least three days in advance.

If you have failed to inform the organiser on your cancellation for three consecutive times, you may be blacklisted for future events.

Transferral
You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details at least three days in advance.

Attendance
CPD points for CPD Scheme will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.

Privacy
The personal information that you provide to the Malaysian Bar, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded, stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Malaysian Bar for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event, and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
