The 2-Day Introduction to Mediation Course is the path towards becoming a fully fledged mediator.

The next step after the 2-Day Course is the 5-Day Advanced Mediation Skills Training Course, where you will be accredited as a mediator, if you pass the assessment on Day 5. This advanced training will provide you with the comprehensive skills and knowledge necessary to become a certified mediator, empowering you to facilitate successful resolutions in a variety of contexts.

Description

The Introduction to Mediation Course is an intensive two-day course designed to enhance your understanding of mediation.

You will learn hands-on and effective techniques of managing and resolving conflicts, and improving your communication and interpersonal skills.

This course is highly interactive and includes active engagement in role plays and activities for the development of soft skills, which are essential for mediation.

 

Speaker

Kuthubul Zaman Bukhari

Kuthubul Zaman Bukhari has held various positions in the Malaysian Bar and the Bar Council. He was the Secretary from 2000 to 2002, the Vice President from 2002 to 2003 and the President of the Malaysian Bar and Chairman of the Bar Council from 2003 to 2005.

Kuthubul Zaman Bukhari also member the Bar Council’s Mediation Committee. He chaired the Arbitration Committee that was involved in the initial drafting of the new Arbitration Act which formed the basis of the new Arbitration Act 2005.

Kuthubul Zaman Bukhari was the Chairman of the Asian Mediation Association from 2011-2013 and is also the former Chairman of the Malaysian Mediation Centre (MMC) now known as Malaysian International Mediation Centre (MIMC) which was set up by the Bar Council in 1999.

Kuthubul Zaman Bukhari was appointed to sit on the Royal Commission to Enhance the Operation and Management of the Royal Malaysian Police on 4.2.2004 and was also appointed to sit on the Royal Commission To Enquire Into The Standard Operating Procedure, Rules And Regulations In Relation To The Conduct Of Body Search In Respect Of An Arrest And Detention By The Police on 1st December 2005 by the Yang DiPertuan Agung. Was conferred the award Panglima Jasa Negara by the Yang DiPertuan Agung, which carries the title “Datuk”.

Tay Bee Choo

Tay Bee Choo a member of Lincoln's Inn, was called to the English Bar in 1983, the Malaysian Bar in 1984 and the Singapore Bar in 1993.

She was accredited as a Mediator in 2000 by Leadr, Australia, and attended a refresher course with the Accord Group, Australia in 2010. She was a participant at the Advanced Commercial and Family Mediation Skills Workshop in 2000 and Train the Trainers course in 2010. She had also mediated in estate, commercial and matrimonial disputes under the auspices of the Malaysian Mediation Center.

Ms. Tay served as a member of the Johore Bar for 7 years and had volunteered in many NGOs including Seka/ah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Khas Princess Elizabeth (a school for the blind), Spastic Children's Association of Johor, Johor Society For The Performing Arts (JSPA) etc.

Ms. Tay also was appointed by the Discplinary Board and had served as a member of the Disciplinary Investigation Tribunal from 2004 to 2024.

Terms and Conditions

Event Policy

Places are limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

For events with registration fees, all payments must be made in advance, including bank charges. Registration will be confirmed once proof of payment is provided by email or fax, and full payment is received.

For events that are not organised by Bar Council, please note that you are subject to the relevant terms and conditions specified by the external providers.

Cancellation 

Cancellations must be made in writing.

If you have failed to inform the organiser on your cancellation for three consecutive times, you may be blacklisted for future events.

Refunds 

Refunds will be processed after the event is completed. This may take up to 30 business days. The conditions for refunds are as follows:

  • Full refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled or postponed by the organiser due to some circumstances.
  • No refunds for this course. However substitution is allowed.

The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.

Transferral

You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details.

Attendance 

CPD points will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.

Privacy 

The personal information that you provide to the Bar Council, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded, stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Bar Council for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event, and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
