Description
This session aims to provide a practical and structured overview of the Criminal Procedure Code (“CPC”), focusing on its core principles, procedural framework and real-world application in criminal litigation. The talk will “decode” the CPC by breaking down complex provisions into clear, workable concepts, enabling practitioners to better navigate the criminal justice process from investigation to the trial and post-trial stages.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand the structure and key provisions of the CPC, including the flow of criminal proceedings from arrest and investigation to trial and appeal;
- Identify and apply critical procedural rights and safeguards, particularly in relation to arrest, remand, bail and admissibility of evidence;
- Recognise common procedural pitfalls and irregularities, and understand how to address or challenge them effectively in practice;and
- Interpret and apply CPC provisions in real-world scenarios, with greater confidence and clarity in both advisory and advocacy roles.
