Handling Medical Experts Course | 14 August 2026 – 16 August 2026

14 August 2026, 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm (Friday) (Zoom) | 15 August 2026, 08:45 am to 5:30 pm (Saturday) (KL Court Complex) | 16 August 2026, 10:00 am to 4:30 pm (Sunday) (KL Court Complex)

The Bar Council Advocacy Training Committee (“ATC”) is launching its inaugural Handling Medical Experts Course, applying an established training methodology to a new frontier focused on training lawyers in the handling of medical expert witnesses.

The course is designed to provide participants with the opportunity of conducting examination (in chief and cross examination) of medical experts within a practical courtroom setting. This court-simulated setting is intended to enhance the practical depth and experiential value of the programme by exposing participants to challenges commonly encountered in practice. Participants will be required to perform as advocates in a simulated proceeding, allowing them to apply advocacy techniques in a practical context.

Experienced and trained practitioners and members of the judiciary will observe and provide personalised feedback and guidance to participants regarding their performance, with the aim of enhancing their advocacy skills and confidence in handling medical expert evidence.

The course will be conducted in two parts:

  • an online session on 14 Aug 2026 from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm; and
  • two physical courtroom sessions on 15 and 16 Aug 2026 from 8:45 am to 5:30 pm, and 10:00 am to 4:30 pm respectively.

This course is made possible through the support of the Medico-Legal Society of Malaysia and the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia as supporting organisations.
