At the GST Conference in September 2017, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD) made an announcement regarding its latest compliance drive, called Customs Blue Ocean Strategy (CBOS)3. This project will run from March 2017 to 31st Dec 2017. CBOS 3.0 plans to visit the premises of 200,000 GST registered business out of the 434,000 GST-registered businesses. So, there is 50% chance you may be visited by RMCD. Do not panic, you can get ready by doing some preparatory work using the three soft copies enclosed.

Appadu Santhariah is a CA(M), FCCA, CPA, MBA, MTax, ex Bank Negara and ex Customs official, has spent nearly 30 years working as a financial controller in Malaysia, UK, New Zealand and Australia where he was involved with the implementation of VAT and GST. He understands the day to day operations and the GST issues faced by businesses. Recently passed the GST examination for GST Tax agents set by Customs Department. Currently enrolled as a PhD candidate at RMIT University, Melbourne, specializing in Malaysian GST. He has conducted GST presentations to MIA, Customs Department and Universities in Malaysia.
