Cheow Wee was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1993. His practice is focused mainly in criminal litigation. Cheow Wee has been an advocacy trainer since 2011, and is in the core group who helps prepare modules for the Criminal Advocacy Training Courseb(“CTAC”) which was launched in May 2015 by the Bar Council Advocacy Training Committee. He also initiated the Mentor-Mentee Programme organised by the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee Criminal Practice Committee since 2012. Cheow Wee has conducted advocacy training for both civil and criminal courses throughout Malaysia, and has also been invited to join the teaching faculty of the International Advocacy Training Council as well as conducting courses organised by the Sabah Law Society in Kota Kinabalu (2014 and 2016), Brunei Darussalam Attorney General’s Chambers (2015), Republic of Fiji Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (2017), Hong Kong Advocacy Training Council (2017 and 2019), Advanced Training Course at Keble College, Oxford (2018), and the South African Remote Training Course (2020). Cheow Wee is the current Co-Chairperson of the Bar Council Advocacy Training Committee.
Janice Anne Leo was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2000. She obtained her Master’s degree in industrial relations and human resource management from University of Sydney in August 2002.
In May 2018, Janice joined Steven Thiru & Sudhar Partnership, a boutique dispute resolution firm as a partner. She has handled numerous employment related disputes at the Industrial Court and judicial review applications at the High Court, and has argued appeals at the Court of Appeal and Federal Court. Janice also handles various aspects of employment related advisory work for both local and foreign clients. In addition to this, her other areas of practice include administrative law, planning law and general litigation.
Janice speaks on employment related matters at conferences and seminars both locally and internationally. She is a member of the Bar Council Industrial and Employment Law Committee (“IELC”) and has been actively involved in the continuing legal education seminars organised by the IELC and the Bar Council Continuing Professional Development (“CPD”) Department.
In October 2002, she joined Shook Lin & Bok as a legal associate with a focus
on employment law, and was made a partner with effect from 1 Jan 2011.
Lavinia Kumaraendran heads the litigation department at Thomas Philip. She was admitted as a Barrister-at-Law (Lincoln’s Inn) in 2003, and was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2005. She has been in active dispute resolution practice in the field of the
general civil and commercial litigation. Lavinia focuses on corporate litigation particularly on shareholders’ disputes, breach of director’s duties and minority oppression actions. She frequently appears as solicitor and counsel in all tiers of the Courts in Malaysia, and has acted for a range of clients in various industries including public listed companies, liquidators, receivers and managers. She also acted as counsel in arbitrations conducted at the Asian International Arbitration Centre (“AIAC”).
Lavinia is a trainer with the Bar Council Advocacy Training Committee and has trained advocates in Malaysia and various other jurisdictions such as Singapore and South Africa.

(2) Log in to Zoom, and provide your username
For Members of the Bar or pupils-in-chambers, use the format below for identification purposes when prompted:
Full name (as per NRIC) | Bar Council membership number or petition number
For non-members, provide your full name only.
(3) Setup your space
Ensure that you have a strong Internet connection. You may use an earpiece for clarity.
(4) Mute your microphone
When the webinar is ongoing, please mute your microphone on Zoom at all times to ensure there is no interruption from your end.
(5) You may raise questions during the Question-and-Answer session only
Please take note that no speaking is allowed when the webinar is taking place.

Event Policy
Places are limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
For events with registration fees, all payments must be made in advance, including bank charges. Registration will be confirmed once proof of payment is provided by email or fax, and full payment is received.
For events that are not organised by Bar Council, please note that you are subject to the relevant terms and conditions specified by the external providers.
Cancellation
Cancellations must be made in writing.
If you have failed to inform the organiser on your cancellation for three consecutive times, you may be blacklisted for future events.
Refunds
Refunds will be processed after the event is completed. This may take up to 30 business days. The conditions for refunds are as follows:
Full refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled or postponed by the organiser due to some circumstances.
No refunds for this course. However substitution is allowed.
The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.
Transferral
You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details.
Attendance
CPD points will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.
Privacy
The personal information that you provide to the Bar Council, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded, stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Bar Council for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event, and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
