The 2-Day Introduction to Mediation Course is the path towards becoming a fully fledged mediator.

The next step after the 2-Day Course is the 5-Day Advanced Mediation Skills Training Course, where you will be accredited as a mediator, if you pass the assessment on Day 5. This advanced training will provide you with the comprehensive skills and knowledge necessary to become a certified mediator, empowering you to facilitate successful resolutions in a variety of contexts.

Description

The Introduction to Mediation Skills Training Course is an intensive two-day course designed to enhance your understanding of mediation.

You will learn hands-on and effective techniques of managing and resolving conflicts, and improving your communication and interpersonal skills.

This course is highly interactive and includes active engagement in role plays and activities for the development of soft skills, which are essential for mediation.

Speaker

Lai Choe Ken

Kenny Lai graduated in 1998 with Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree from the Thames Valley University, London (now known as University of West London). He was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2000.

He is currently a partner in his own firm Choong Meng Sze & Lai. He is the former Chairman of the Perak Bar Committee from 2014–2016 and was the Perak Bar Representative to the Bar Council from 2013–2014, 2016–2018.

He was a former Co-Chairperson of the Bar Council Court Liaison Committee, former Chairperson of the Bar Council Law Reform and Special Areas Committee, former Co-Chairperson of the Bar Council Sports Committee, and former Deputy Chairperson of the Bar Council National Young Lawyers Committee. He co-organised the Malaysia/Singapore Law Games in Ipoh in 2018. He is currently still an active member of several committees of the Bar Council.

He has 21 years of practical experience in civil and criminal litigation as well as some conveyancing work. He focuses on criminal and civil litigation. He is a mediator and a mediation trainer with the Malaysian International Mediation Centre (“MIMC”) of the Bar Council. He is a also civil and criminal advocacy trainer with the Advocacy Training Course organised by the Bar Council Advocacy Training Committee.

Terms and Conditions

Event Policy

Places are limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

For events with registration fees, all payments must be made in advance, including bank charges. Registration will be confirmed once proof of payment is provided by email or fax, and full payment is received.

For events that are not organised by Bar Council, please note that you are subject to the relevant terms and conditions specified by the external providers.

Cancellation 

Cancellations must be made in writing.

If you have failed to inform the organiser on your cancellation for three consecutive times, you may be blacklisted for future events.

Refunds 

Refunds will be processed after the event is completed. This may take up to 30 business days. The conditions for refunds are as follows:

  • Full refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled or postponed by the organiser due to some circumstances.
  • No refunds for this course. However substitution is allowed.

The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.

Transferral

You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details.

Attendance 

CPD points will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.

Privacy 

The personal information that you provide to the Bar Council, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded, stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Bar Council for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event, and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
