The 2-Day Introduction to Mediation Course is the path towards becoming a fully fledged mediator.

The next step after the 2-Day Course is the 5-Day Advanced Mediation Skills Training Course, where you will be accredited as a mediator, if you pass the assessment on Day 5. This advanced training will provide you with the comprehensive skills and knowledge necessary to become a certified mediator, empowering you to facilitate successful resolutions in a variety of contexts.

Description

The Introduction to Mediation Skills Training Course is an intensive two-day course designed to enhance your understanding of mediation.

You will learn hands-on and effective techniques of managing and resolving conflicts, and improving your communication and interpersonal skills.

This course is highly interactive and includes active engagement in role plays and activities for the development of soft skills, which are essential for mediation.

Tay Bee Choo

Tay Bee Choo graduated from Manchester, England with a B.A. (Hons) Law degree, is a member of Lincoln’s Inn and was called to the English Bar in 1983.  In 1984, she was called to the Malaysian Bar.  In 1993, she was also called to the Singapore Bar.

She is also a Certified Mediator registered since 2001 with the Malaysian Mediation Centre now known as Malaysian International Mediation Centre (MIMC), and Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) for Arbitration. Currently, she is also exploring the avenue of mediation as an alternative process and solution to litigation and has had the benefit of successfully mediating under the auspices of the MIMC, Bar Council. She was also sponsored by the Bar Council for training as a trainer and has been actively involved in conducting training and coaching in Mediation Skill Training Courses throughout the country also under the auspices of the Malaysia Bar Council.

She had served as a member of the Johore Bar for 7 years - as Sub-Committee member from 1989 to 1991, and then as an elected member of the Committee from 1992 to 1996. Whilst as an elected Johore Bar Committee member, she was Chairperson of the Legal Aid Sub-Committee and the Education Sub-Committee. She had also been appointed and remains a member of Disciplinary Committee since 2004.

Terms and Conditions

Event Policy

Places are limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

For events with registration fees, all payments must be made in advance, including bank charges. Registration will be confirmed once proof of payment is provided by email or fax, and full payment is received.

For events that are not organised by Bar Council, please note that you are subject to the relevant terms and conditions specified by the external providers.

Cancellation 

Cancellations must be made in writing.

If you have failed to inform the organiser on your cancellation for three consecutive times, you may be blacklisted for future events.

Refunds 

Refunds will be processed after the event is completed. This may take up to 30 business days. The conditions for refunds are as follows:

  • Full refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled or postponed by the organiser due to some circumstances.
  • No refunds for this course. However substitution is allowed.

The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.

Transferral

You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details.

Attendance 

CPD points will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.

Privacy 

The personal information that you provide to the Bar Council, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded, stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Bar Council for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event, and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
