The 2-Day Introductory to Mediation Course is the path towards becoming a fully fledged mediator.

The next step after the 2-Day Course is the 5-Day Advanced Mediation Skills Training Course, where you will be accredited as a mediator, if you pass the assessment on Day 5. This advanced training will provide you with the comprehensive skills and knowledge necessary to become a certified mediator, empowering you to facilitate successful resolutions in a variety of contexts.

Description

The Introductory to Mediation Course is an intensive two-day course designed to enhance your understanding of mediation.

You will learn hands-on and effective techniques of managing and resolving conflicts, and improving your communication and interpersonal skills.

This course is highly interactive and includes active engagement in role plays and activities for the development of soft skills, which are essential for mediation.

Petra B.A. Oon

Petra Oon is a sole proprietor at Messrs Petra B A Oon, Penang and was

  • admitted as a Barrister of England & Wales in 1985
  • admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1986; and
  • admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the Republic of Singapore in 1994

She is a Mediator trained by LEADR, Australia and as a Trainer by Accredited to the Malaysian Mediation Centre (MMC) since 2001 and with the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA) and former Chairman of the Penang Bar.

Christine Khor Meow Wei

Christine practices law under her firm name of Messrs Moi - Christine Khor based in Penang. Her areas of practice include family law, estate planning and administration, conveyancing, corporate, and some criminal matters. Her firm also looks into public interest matters.

Christine read law in Sydney and gained a double degree in Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Law from the University of Sydney. She has also completed a Masters degree of Finance and Financial Law awarded by University of London, International Programme with merit. She is an accredited mediator empanelled with the Malaysian Mediation Centre (MMC) and Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA). Christine has mediated in a few matrimonial matters in her legal practice and as part of her social works with NGOs in Penang.

She is also one of the trainers for the MIMC, forms under the auspicea of the Bar Council. She was involved in training mediators in the 5-day mediation skill accreditation course also run by MMC in Penang, Johor, KL and Pahang. Christine was also one of the visiting members teamed up by Bar Council and KLRCA to Beijing Arbitration Centre, CIETAC and Shanghai Arbitration Centre in 2010. She also conducted a 2-day introductory workshop on mediation for professionals for a health organization in collaboration with MMC in 2013.

Apart from legal practice, Christine enjoys teaching and social work. She is an adjunct MBA lecturer at Inti University College. She is also a Mandarin and English speaker for the Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) and has delivered the subject on property law in their negotiator courses. She is also an ex-honorary secretary and now an active volunteer for the organizations which assist women/children/people in trouble and for the poor.

Megalai V Raman

Megalai V Raman who is with Meg Nacha Zahir & Co., has been in practice since 1994. Meg as she is known is an Accredited Mediator with the Malaysian Mediation Centre and the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration.

Meg has been the Trainer in several of the Mediation training programmes conducted by the Malaysian Mediation Centre and has also conducted trainings in the Industrial Court.

She mediates in the area of commercial, land, medico legal and construction disputes. She claims that she is a people person and the best if not the only way to sustain values and relationships in this era of conflict and commercialization is to resolve disputes through mediation.

Terms and Conditions

Event Policy

Places are limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

For events with registration fees, all payments must be made in advance, including bank charges. Registration will be confirmed once proof of payment is provided by email or fax, and full payment is received.

For events that are not organised by Bar Council, please note that you are subject to the relevant terms and conditions specified by the external providers.

Cancellation 

Cancellations must be made in writing.

If you have failed to inform the organiser on your cancellation for three consecutive times, you may be blacklisted for future events.

Refunds 

Refunds will be processed after the event is completed. This may take up to 30 business days. The conditions for refunds are as follows:

  • Full refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled or postponed by the organiser due to some circumstances.
  • No refunds for this course. However substitution is allowed.

The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.

Transferral

You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details.

Attendance 

CPD points will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.

Privacy 

The personal information that you provide to the Bar Council, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded, stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Bar Council for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event, and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
