Description

The Bar Council Advocacy Training Committee is organising an advanced-level advocacy  training course on appellate advocacy. The objective of the course is to provide participants  with practical insight and suggestions for making an effective oral argument before an  appellate tribunal.

This course follows the same effective and successful training method deployed for the  basic advocacy training course also organised by the Bar Council Advocacy Training  Committee. The course is based on two case studies that participants will be expected to  prepare for and then perform in an actual court setting. Participants must fully prepare for  oral arguments.

The trainers include Judges of the Federal Court, Court of Appeal and High Court, and  experienced advocates. The trainers will provide practical and helpful pointers in a positive  and professional environment, with the aim of assisting participants to:

(a) develop and present clear and persuasive appellate arguments; and
(b) engage effectively with the appellate tribunal.

This course is recommended for Members of the Bar with at least five years of experience  in practice, who wish to refine their skills in relation to appellate work. Prior attendance and  completion of the basic advocacy training course is strongly recommended but not  essential.

Places are limited to 30 participants and will be given on a first come, first served basis.
