Description
The Bar Council Family Law Committee is pleased to invite Members of the Bar and relevant professionals to participate in an in-person training programme on collaborative practice (“CP”), a multidisciplinary and respectful approach to resolving family disputes without resorting to litigation. This training will feature interactive sessions, real-world case simulations, and networking opportunities, conducted by experienced trainers from the United States. Upon completion of the Introductory Session, participants will be eligible to apply for membership to the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (“IACP”) and join the Malaysian Collaborative Practice Group.

Speaker
Erinn McKee Hannigan graduated from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2002, earning a Certificate of Child and Family Law. She is admitted to practice in Ohio in the United States. Erinn’s practice has been in the area of domestic relations law since her graduation.
In 2018, Erinn left the courtroom behind and devotes her practice to peace-making and non-litigation work. She is a Collaborative Practitioner, mediator, guardian ad litem (“GAL”) and parenting coordinator. She is a member of the Ohio Supreme Court GAL faculty and teaches continuing legal education (“CLE”) throughout Ohio and the United States on various domestic relations topics. Erinn also trains other lawyers, mental health professionals and financial professionals on collaborative practice both at the introductory and advanced level.
Erinn is a member of the Domestic Relations Section of the Cincinnati Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association, the Association of Family and Conciliatory Courts, and the International Association of Collaborative Professionals. Erinn was named as a “Super Lawyer” for the last several years and since 2022, she was also named among the “Top 50 Women Lawyers in Ohio”, “Top 50 Lawyers in Cincinnati”, and “Top 25 Women Lawyers in Cincinnati”.
Julia A McAninch received her doctoral degree from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and has had the opportunity to be trained throughout the Chicago area, New York City, and Nashville. One of her areas of emphasis throughout her training and research has been on multicultural issues, including cross-cultural dialogue and training. She has had the opportunity to lead workshops, work with organisations and teach courses on this and other topics at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Columbia College Chicago, Pace University, and as an adjunct professor at Vanderbilt University in its Human Development Counselling programme.
Julia worked with children, adolescents, and their families for her first five years of practice before working in college counselling centres with students, faculty, staff, and their dependents. Julia established her private practice, McAninch Psychological & Consulting Services (PLLC) in 2008 which provides therapy, collaborative divorce coaching, and family mediation with a focus in domestic violence, as well as consulting and training. Through divorce support services, she expanded into helping families with estate and family business matters. She is a Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (“PsyPact”) provider, allowing interjurisdictional practice in most of the United States.
Julia is a founding board member of the Middle Tennessee Collaborative Alliance (now Collaborative Divorce Nashville), formerly serving as its president. She was the 2011 co-chair for the Nashville Psychotherapy Institute and currently serves on their advisory council. Julia served on the board of directors for IACP for six years, including as president in 2024. She was also a member of the inaugural IACP Leadership Academy and has taken leadership and conflict resolutions skills to work with leadership teams.
Cheryl Panther is a shareholder at LBMC (PC) and a co-leader of LBMC’s practice area on financial services to family law and estate attorneys and their clients. Prior to this, she was the founder of Panther Financial Planning (LLC) (PFP) as a registered investment adviser (Tennessee), and Panther Financial Divorce Solutions (LLC), a certified public accountant (“CPA”) firm (Tennessee). She provides divorce financial consulting services and traditional financial planning as a CPA financial planner.
Cheryl executes a variety of divorce financial services for clients and attorneys, including support as a neutral financial and tax professional in collaborative divorce, divorce mediation, and consulting and testifying in traditional divorce cases. She has presented a variety of training programmes for collaborative divorce, mediation, and financial and taxation topics.
Cheryl has been a CPA for more than 30 years and earned the “Personal Financial Specialist” designation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“AICPA”). She is also a “Tennessee Rule 31 Listed Family Mediator with Special Training in Domestic Violence”. She began service on the board of directors for IACP in 2020, for which she currently serves as its treasurer. She also chairs its Membership Committee, and is a past faculty member for the Academy. Cheryl served on the board of directors for her local practice group, Collaborative Divorce Nashville from 2014 to 2020 and is a past president of her local practice group. She also served on the board of directors for the Association of Divorce Financial Planners from 2022 to 2024, after having been a member of its Strategic Vision Committee for several years.
Terms and Conditions
Event Policy
Places are limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration for this session will close on 3 June 2025 (Tuesday), at 12:00 pm.
For events with registration fees, all payments must be made in advance, including bank charges. Registration will be confirmed once full payment is received and proof of payment is provided by email or fax.
The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.
Cancellation
Cancellations must be made in writing.
Please note that there will be no refunds for cancellations, but substitutions are allowed. Kindly inform us in writing with the relevant details at least three days in advance.
If you have failed to inform the organiser on your cancellation for three consecutive times, you may be blacklisted for future events.
Transferal
You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details at least three days in advance.
Attendance
CPD points for CPD Scheme will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.
Privacy
The personal information that you provide to the Malaysian Bar, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded, stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Malaysian Bar for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event, and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
