Description
This session will highlight the key challenges arising from the basic principles and practice of bankruptcy law which are currently faced by bankruptcy practitioners in Peninsular Malaysia, particularly after the coming into force of the Bankruptcy (Amendment) Act 2017 (Act A1534) on 6 Oct 2017.
Speaker
Trevor Jason Mark Padasian was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1993, having been admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria, Australia, in 1991. He is a partner of Skrine in its dispute resolution department and has, over the years, handled the full range of civil litigation matters including personal (bankruptcy), corporate insolvency disputes and matrimonial disputes, as well as civil non-litigation matters, including matters pertaining to the Mental Health Act 2001. He has given talks on the foregoing areas to the Bar, corporate management and professional bodies (including that of the banking industry), amongst others. Trevor is a mediator on the Panel of Accredited Mediators of the Malaysian International Mediation Centre; a member of the Disciplinary Committee Panel of the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board; and a member of the Bar Council Family Law Committee, Bar Council Mediation Committee and Bar Council MyBar Ageing Advisory Committee.
Wan Nabil Ikram bin Wan Zamri was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2022. He is an associate in Skrine’s dispute resolution department, whose work encompasses commercial and civil disputes, professional negligence, insurance and reinsurance, medical negligence and family law.
Moderator
Tan Yng Yiin is a newly admitted advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2024. She is an associate in Skrine's dispute resolution department, where she has been actively engaged in a wide range of legal matters, including civil and commercial litigation, insurance and reinsurance disputes, professional negligence, medical negligence, insolvency, and matrimonial disputes.
Terms and Conditions
Event Policy
Places are limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
For events with registration fees, all payments must be made in advance, including bank charges. Registration will be confirmed once proof of payment is provided by email or fax, and full payment is received.
For events that are not organised by Bar Council, please note that you are subject to the relevant terms and conditions specified by the external providers.
Cancellation
Cancellations must be made in writing.
If you have failed to inform the organiser on your cancellation for three consecutive times, you may be blacklisted for future events.
Refunds
Refunds will be processed after the event is completed. This may take up to 30 business days. The conditions for refunds are as follows:
- Full refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled or postponed by the organiser due to some circumstances.
- There will be no refunds for cancellations made fewer than seven working days before the session but substitutions are allowed.
The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.
Transferral
You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details.
Attendance
CPD points will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.
Privacy
The personal information that you provide to the Bar Council, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded, stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Bar Council for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event, and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
