CRC Talks: Orang Asli Children ̶ Rights, Opportunities, Aspirations

Clive Allen Williams-Hunt @ Bah Akoq is from the Semai community of Kampung Ampang Woh, Tapah,
Perak.

He graduated from the Universiti Teknologi Mara with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree in 2009. He has been actively involved in the Orang Asli’s youth development since 2013, after being elected as the President of the Majlis Belia Orang Asli Malaysia. Currently, his focus is on running the Sustainable Development Goals programme among the Orang Asli youth; and collaborating with the International Youth Centre, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Malaysian Youth Council, BluConsult, Grow the Goose, and the Malaysian Humanitarian Movement.

He represented the Orang Asli in the Perak Youth Assembly for the 2016/2017 session, raising the problems faced by the Orang Asli youths.

He was elected as a Member of the Lembaga Pelawat Hospital Orang Asli Gombak in January 2017.

He is the Director of Kenraak, a non-profit organisation working on issues relating to the welfare of the Orang Asli, and currently starting new projects on the preservation and documentation of Orang Asli culture.

Fatienismatulain, or better known as “Ain”, is a 19-year-old Orang Asli from the Jakun community. She is actively involved in assisting the Orang Asli community to advance the cause of the Orang Asli, namely to ensure that the rights of the Orang Asli are recognised and respected.

Jenita Engi is an Orang Asli Temuan from Kampung Parit Gong, Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan. She graduated with a Diploma in Early Childhood Education from Segi College Subang Jaya in 2014. From 2014 to 2016, she assisted the Semai community (as a co-coordinator) in Kuala Lipis, Pahang, to open their community learning centre, which emphasises the implementation of cultural lifestyle practices into their curriculum.

She has focused on the education of the Orang Asli since she worked with the Center for Orang Asli Concerns from 2007 to 2015. She has been a volunteer with the Jaringan Orang Asal Semalaysia (“JOAS”) since 2008. She is currently working as a reseach assistant for the Amplifying the Voices of Orang Asli Young Women Project.

Nadiah Hanim Abdul Latif is a Strategic Advocacy and Corporate Affairs professional, committed to advocating better corporate understanding and action surrounding sustainability, business and human rights. She was the former Head of Corporate Affairs and Head of Corporate Responsibility at a leading Malaysian multinational conglomerate, where her experience includes strategy and policy development, sustainability, business and human rights, crisis communications, stakeholder engagement, integrated reporting as well as intellectual property management, and corporate legal advisory services.

Nadiah has an LLB degree from the University of Bristol, UK; an MA degree in International Relations from the University of New South Wales, Australia; and is an alumnus of the Prince of Wales’s Business & Sustainability Leadership Programme from the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. Nadiah is the Southeast Asia Regional Representative of the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation; a committee member of the Malaysian Rare Disorders Society; a member of the Malaysia International Search and Rescue Organisation; and is the former Volunteer Coordinator for the Australian Red Cross Migrant Youth Orientation Programme in Sydney.
