Handling clients with family disputes can be challenging, Clients are often distressed, angry or hurt. This makes learning about client management in family dispute resolution even more important than other areas of law.

This talk first walks you through basic principles in divorce and judicial separation. It also involves an interactive session on meeting the clients and discussion of common issues faced by family practitioners. It aims to prepare those new to the area on ways to distill facts at the first client consultation, and advise clients by applying the law to their facts.

Speaker

Rajashree Suppiah has an LLB from the University of London and has been in practice since 1997. As an experienced litigator she has been involved in many areas of practice including contentious matrimonial matters and cross borders custody disputes. She serves on the Bar’s Family Law Committee and is a trainer for the Bar Advocacy Training Course. She is a trained collaborative professional who is keen to encourage Collaborative Practice as an alternative dispute resolution option in family matters.

Matt Wong Chong Ee has an LLB from the University of London. He serves on the Bar’s Family Law and Mediation Committees, and sub-committees of the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee. His principal areas of practice are contentious matrimonial matters and proceedings involving children. He is a mediator and collaborative professional. He also lectured at a local college.
