The Johore Bar Committee is organizing the inaugural Johore Bar Conference on Personal Injury Claims+Medical Negligence.  

The one-day conference aims to provide participants with valuable insights on key issues in personal injury claims and medical negligence, to create a platform for networking opportunities with fellow practitioners and to equip participants with new ideas and perspectives in handling personal injury and medical negligence claims.

The Hon. Justice Datuk Vazeer Alam Bin Mydin Meera, DIMP, DSPN, DMSM

He is currently serving as a Judge of the Federal Court of Malaysia, the highest court in the country, with deep passion for legal writing and training. In addition to his judicial responsibilities, Justice Vazeer is also a member of the International Faculty of Advocacy Trainers with the International Advocacy Training Council based in Hong Kong, where he trains young lawyers in the art of advocacy. He has also been appointed an Adjunct Professor at the School of Business, Monash University Malaysia, and has been conferred Fellowships by both Aberystwyth University, Wales, and the Commonwealth Judicial Education Institute, Canada.

 

Mr. Dhinesh Bhaskaran is an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya, a Barrister-at-Law of Gray’s Inn, England and holds a Masters in Law from the University of Cambridge. He heads the Medico-Legal team at Shearn Delamore & Co, who are Solicitors for the Medical Protection Society (MPS). His areas of practice include representing medical and dental practitioners in medical negligence litigation and in proceedings before the Malaysian Medical Council and Malaysian Dental Council. He also advises medical and dental practitioners on a diverse range of medico-legal issues. He is a Past President of the Medico-Legal Society of Malaysia, and a past member of the IMU Joint-Committee of the Research and Ethics Committee of the International Medical University.

 

Mr. Chok Chin You obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Malaya in 1985. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1986. In 1987-1988, he pursued his Master of Laws course at the London School of Economics and Political Science on a British scholarship. Upon the completion of that course, he obtained a Master of Laws degree from the University of London in 1989.

From the time he commenced his practice as a lawyer in 1989, his practice has always been in civil litigation and counsel work. Apart from appearing as counsel, he has also represented clients in disciplinary proceedings at the Malaysian Medical Council and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. His fields of practice include general civil litigation, medical negligence, judicial review, employment law and practice, and disciplinary proceedings by regulatory bodies. Mr. Chok is a panel solicitor for the Marsh MEDEFEND Medical Indemnity scheme.

 

Mr. Manmohan S Dhillon completed his pupillage with Mr P S Ranjan and was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1990. Since then he has practiced in P S Ranjan & Co and was admitted as a partner in 1997. He is a member of the Medico-Legal Society of Singapore.

He has been a legal adviser to patients support groups, medical organizations, hospitals and other healthcare personnel and organizations. He has also been invited to speak at various medico-legal conferences, seminars and meetings and has attended medico-legal seminars and conferences held in various parts of the world.

He has appeared as counsel for claimants, doctors and hospitals in all tiers of our courts and has also appeared as counsel before the Malaysian Medical Council and the Malaysian Dental Council on behalf of both complainants and doctors. He has also appeared as counsel for doctors who had faced criminal proceedings in court. He has in the past also been involved as counsel in some matrimonial, defamation, employment, commercial and corporate cases. He has conducted and assisted in domestic inquiries in cases involving both the medical and legal professions. Apart from appearing as counsel in various medico-legal proceedings involving doctors, hospitals, patients and their next of kin, he is also actively involved in giving legal advice and assistance on medico-legal issues to the various stakeholders in the healthcare industry and to his brethren in the legal profession. He has an interest in community and charity work and tries to exercise as often as possible.

 

Puan Maidzuara Mohammed is an utter Barrister of the Gray’s Inn. She was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1990. She was in practice as an advocate & solicitor for almost 30 years and was involved in various areas of the law with emphasis on medico-legal matters for the last 10 years of her practice. In 2020 she left practice at the Bar and served as a Judicial Commissioner of 

the High Court. In February 2023, Maidzuara joined Messrs Azim, Tunku Farik & Wong as a Consultant. She works with one of the Partners, Mr. Tharumah Rajah in the medico-legal department.

 

Mr. Manoharan Veerasamy or usually referred as Manoveera is the Managing Partner of Messrs ManoVeera & Co and has over 25 years’ experience in bodily injury claims litigation. He was admitted as an advocate & solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1999.

He started his practice as an “Insurance company lawyer” in Murali B Pillai & Associates, and well experienced early on, as to what is required by the Insurance companies when it comes to bodily injury claims. He possesses sound knowledge in the law relating to personal injury / motor vehicle claims and has handled complex and complicated matters right up to the Federal Court (MMIP v. Tirumeniyar Singara Vello (2019) 10 CLJ 731, P&O v. Arnandan (heard together in AMG v. Sa Amran (2022) 8 CLJ 175). 

He is known to be a relentless litigator who appears frequently in the appellate courts to argue ground breaking legal issues in “runner” matters.

 

Mr. Ramakrishna Tharini graduated in medicine from Queen Mary University of London. A longstanding interest in the law led him to pursue a post-graduate diploma in law at City University, London. He was thereafter called to the English Bar at the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. 

He was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in October 2015 and practises primarily in the field of medical law. In the course of his practice, he has been involved in the conduct of numerous clinical negligence claims, acting for a wide range of clients including patients, healthcare practitioners and hospitals.
