This webinar will deal with recent medico-legal decisions in Malaysia.
Speaker
CHARLAINE ADRIENNE CHIN is a Partner at Raja, Darryl & Loh and the Treasurer of the Medico-Legal Society of Malaysia (MLSM). Her practice focuses on civil and commercial litigation, the bulk of which are in respect of medico-legal and dento-legal cases. She has represented medical and dental practitioners accused of clinical malpractice at all levels of the Malaysian court as well as in disciplinary inquiries held by the Malaysian Medical and Dental Councils. She was notably part of the team that successfully defended medical practitioners in a host of landmark medical negligence appeals to the Federal Court in respect of the duty to diagnose and treat as well as the duty to advise of risks.
Charlaine has co-authored several written publications and book chapters on medical negligence, digital healthcare and healthcare enforcement, among other topics. The new and emerging areas of keen interest within the healthcare realm include artificial intelligence and digital healthcare.
CHEONG CHI YAN has been an associate at Raja, Darryl & Loh since 2022. She earned a Bachelor of Law from the University of Essex in 2018. She completed the Bar Professional Training Course at BPP Law School (Leeds) in 2019.
She was admitted to the Utter Bar of England and Wales as a Barrister -at-Law and as a member of the Honorable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. She was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2022.
She actively handles medico-legal and civil litigation files. Her practice includes medico-legal advisory work, representing medical and dental practitioners in inquiry proceedings and civil suits as well as partaking in settlement negotiations.
SOFIYA IMRAN graduated from the University of Manchester with a First Class Honours LLB in Law with Criminology. She then completed the Bar Professional Training Course at the University of Law in London and was admitted to the Utter bar of England and Wales as a member of the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn. Following this, she obtained a Distinction in her LLM in Medical Law from Queen Mary University of London.
Before venturing into legal practice, Sofiya was a lecturer in law at HELP University. Currently, she actively handles medico-legal and civil litigation files. The majority of her practice includes representing medical practitioners in civil suits, in addition to representing medical and dental practitioners in disciplinary proceedings before the Malaysian Medical Council and the Malaysian Dental Council.
