Legal Profession (Group Practice) Rules 2017, and Members’ Right and Obligations under The Professional Indemnity Insurance Policy

17 Nov 2017 - Fri / 1 day / 2:30pm - 6:00pm / Pahang Bar Building

This briefing will assist Members to understand the features and parameters of a Group Practice, and how to establish one.

The PII policy is critical to a law firm’s practice. Notwithstanding its importance, many law firms — particularly small firms — do not have sufficient understanding of, and familiarity with, the terms of the PII policy.

Description

The Bar Council Small Firm Practice and Future of Law Committee (“Committee”) and the Pahang Bar Committee are jointly organising a briefing for Members on the Legal Profession (Group Practice) Rules 2017 (“Rules”), and the rights and obligations of Members under the Professional Indemnity Insurance (“PII”) policy.

The Bar Council has approved the Rules, which are expected to come into effect soon. The Rules will provide an option for small law firms to practise and operate as a group (“Group Practice”) by sharing premises, resources and infrastructure, while remaining as separate entities. For such firms, this would be an attractive and cost-effective option, and enable them to be more competitive in practice.
