Viknesvaran started his illustrious teaching career in 1984 before moving to lecture on professional subjects in 1994. He was later appointed in 2008 as chief examiner for Business Law ICSA (Malaysian variant) and he was also appointed facilitator for MIA-Qualifying Examinations by the Malaysian Institute Of Accountant from 2013 till 2015.

Viknesvaran was called to the Bar on 20th April 2000. Later practised as a sole proprietor before forming a Partnership with Ratnavathy Navaratnam on 1st February 2008. Viknesvaran also contribute to the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary committee as either Chairman of the Hearing or as additional member of the Hearing.

He specializes in criminal law focusing more on capital punishment cases namely drug trafficking cases and murder trials. He has conducted numerous trials at High Court whether be at Shah Alam or Kuala Lumpur with success. His approach to particular situations and his clarity in questioning has won many appraisals

Viknesvaran is listed at the Federal Court Registrar’s list as an assigned counsel for the High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court in cases involving mandatory death penalty since 2006. In civil cases applying for and successfully obtaining injunctions (Fortuna) restraining the other side from executing winding up (section 218) petitions under the Companies Act 1965, Conducting appeals at High Court and Court of Appeal in matters concerning property damage or death or bodily injury.
