The Bar Council Legal Tech, AI and Sandbox Committee will be organising a seminar titled “Insights from the UK on Navigating Digital Transformation”. In this event, UK legal practitioner Joanne Vengadesan shares her experience in advising clients on digital transformation projects, including AI and data privacy matters. This session will focus on practical strategies available to help clients understand and evaluate legal risks in these areas. Additionally, Joanne Vengadesan will explore the ways in which UK law firms have leveraged legal technology to enhance their services. This presentation aims to provide the Members of the Bar with actionable insights and best practices to navigate the evolving digital landscape effectively.

Joanne Vengadesan

Joanne Vengadesan is a commercial, IT and data protection partner at UK law firm Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP, who focuses on commercial contracts in the technology sector, transactional intellectual property issues, and data protection.  She is on the board of Multilaw, a global legal network, and is the global chair of its inclusion and diversity committee. Her previous roles include serving as chancellor of the Multilaw Academy, co-chair of the Multilaw intellectual property and technology group, and chair of the data protection committee for global technology law network iTechLaw. She also heads the technology sector group at Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP. She is ranked as a leading technology lawyer in the UK by Chambers and Legal500 directories, and as a thought leader on data protection matters for the UK in Who’s Who Legal. A significant amount of her work is international, working particularly with clients in North America, France, and India. She is also legally qualified and has practised in Malaysia as an advocate and solicitor.

Foong Cheng Leong

Foong Cheng Leong is a lawyer focusing on the areas of Intellectual Property, Information Technology, Franchise, Privacy and Data Protection laws. He has written books on the Compendium of Malaysian Intellectual Property Cases – Trade Marks, the Compendium of Malaysian Intellectual Property Cases – Copyright, and Foong’s Malaysia Cyber, Electronic Evidence and Information Technology Law. He is also a contributor to the Malaysian Chapter of Data Protection Laws of the World, published by Sweet and Maxwell. He is regularly featured in the media, notably over topics on intellectual property, cyberlaw, data privacy, and the like. He is also a regular columnist for Digital News Asia and writes at www.foongchengleong.com.

Terms and Conditions

Event Policy

Places are limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

For events with registration fees, all payments must be made in advance, including bank charges. Registration will be confirmed once proof of payment is provided by email or fax, and full payment is received.

For events that are not organised by Bar Council, please note that you are subject to the relevant terms and conditions specified by the external providers.

Cancellation 

Cancellations must be made in writing.

If you have failed to inform the organiser on your cancellation for three consecutive times, you may be blacklisted for future events.

Refunds 

Refunds will be processed after the event is completed. This may take up to 30 business days. The conditions for refunds are as follows:

  • Full refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled or postponed by the organiser due to some circumstances.
  • No refunds for this course. However substitution is allowed.

The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.

Transferral

You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details.

Attendance 

CPD points will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.

Privacy 

The personal information that you provide to the Bar Council, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded, stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Bar Council for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event, and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
