Description
The Bar Council Constitutional Law Committee is pleased to present this Merdeka and Malaysia Day Forum, commemorating our nation’s journey since Merdeka.
This forum will critically examine the evolution of Malaysia’s constitutional framework, 68 years after the Merdeka Constitution.
This event aims to foster awareness among Members of the Bar, pupils in chambers and the general public on constitutional issues that continue to shape the Malaysian legal and political landscape.
The forum will feature a panel experienced in constitutional law to provide insights on the core principles of the Merdeka Constitution and review the extent to which those first principles have been adhered to in modern-day Malaysia. Topics such as the preservation of fundamental rights, the upholding of the rule of law and the safeguarding of judicial power in the country, 68 years after gaining independence, will be explored.
The forum will feature two sessions:
- Session 1: Fundamental Liberties Today — Has There Been Due Adherence to the First Principles
of the Merdeka Constitution?
- Session 2: The State of Constitutionalism — 68 Years After the Merdeka Constitution
