9.00am – 12.30pm – Session 1: Review of Islamic Finance Legal and Regulatory Environments

The key definitions and implications of regulatory compliance for an Islamic financial institution.

Overview and review of key regulatory frameworks:

  • Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009
  • Islamic Financial Services Act 2013
  • Development Financial Institutions Act (DFIA) 2002
  • Shariah Governance Policy Document 2019 by Bank Negara Malaysia.

2.00pm – 5.00pm – Session 2: Commodity Murabaha (Tawarruq)

Speaker

Dr. Syed Adam Alhabshi is a Partner at Raja, Darryl & Loh and heads the Islamic Finance Practice Group. He holds a Ph.D in Islamic Finance from the International Centre for Islamic Finance Education (INCEIF) (2016). He also holds a Chartered Islamic Finance ProDr. Syed Adam Alhabshi is a Partner at Raja, Darryl & Loh and heads the Islamic Finance Practice Group. He holds a Ph.D in Islamic Finance from the International Centre for Islamic Finance Education (INCEIF) (2016). He also holds a Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (CIFP) from INCEIF (2011), and read law at the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) (2006). Professionally, he is qualified as a Fellow Chartered Professional in Islamic Finance (F. CPIF). Dr. Syed Adam is an EXCO Member for (2024-2025) and an Associate Member of the Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance Malaysia (ASAS). He previously served as the Honorary Secretary and a Grand Council Member of the Chartered Institute of Islamic Finance (CIIF) (2015-2023). He currently sits as a Shariah Committee member of Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) and was the Co-Chairperson of the Islamic Finance Committee of Bar Council Malaysia from 2022-2025.fessional (CIFP) from INCEIF (2011), and read law at the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) (2006).
