In our society, survivors of disasters, gender-based violence or divorce and separation often experience pain and trauma that are not fully understood by the community.  Many people are unsure how to respond appropriately or offer meaningful support.

This two-hour session is designed to enable participants to gain insights into such situations and learn how to respond when encountering survivors or others affected by painful or traumatic experiences.

Description

Objectives

(1)        Gain insights into the different perspectives of lived experiences of individuals dealing with pain or trauma; and

(2)        Learn how to provide support to affected individuals.

Brief Synopsis

Speaker

Betty Yeoh, Licensed Counsellor

Betty’s activism commenced with the trade union movement.  In 1988, she co-founded the All Women’s Action Society (“AWAM”) in Malaysia and played a key role in contributing and developing its programmes and services.  Betty is also with ENGENDER Consultancy as a Gender Consultant.  She has advocated, alongside other women’s groups, the drafting and passing of the Domestic Violence Act 1994 and the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act 2022.  A member of Malaysia’s Tribunal for Anti-Sexual Harassment for 2024 to 2027, Betty holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences and a Master of Counselling.  Betty conducts training on gender-based violence and leadership (locally and globally) and provides individual and intergenerational counselling, all of which are her passions in life.

Terms and Conditions

Event Policy

Places are limited and registration is on a first come, first served basis. Registration for this session will close on 22 Oct
2025 (Tuesday), at 5:30 pm. For events with registration fees, all payments must be made in advance, including bank charges. Registration will be confirmed once proof of payment is provided by email or fax, and full payment is received.
The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.

Cancellation

Cancellations must be made in writing. Please note that there will be no refunds for cancellations, but substitutions are allowed. Kindly inform us in writing with the relevant details at least three days in advance. If you have failed to inform the organiser on your cancellation for three consecutive times, you may be blacklisted for future events.

Transferral
You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details at least three days in advance. Attendance CPD points for CPD Scheme will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.

Privacy

The personal information that you provide to the Malaysian Bar, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded,
stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Malaysian Bar for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event,
and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
