Description
The MyBar ELEVATE Roadshow aims to introduce, encourage and educate law firms to adopt ELEVATE tools in enhancing the quality and standards of law firm services. This roadshow also aims to explain and provide a better understanding of our professional indemnity and policy coverage terms under the Malaysian Bar’s Mandatory Professional Indemnity Insurance (“PII”).
What you can expect from the roadshow:
- Gain knowledge about ELEVATE tools and how to utilise it for better risk management in law
firms;
- Understand the benefits and advantages of using ELEVATE tools in practice;
- Understand the need for continuous reviewing and updating to improve operations and legal
knowledge; and
- Understand the salient terms of the mandatory professional indemnity and policy coverage
provided to lawyers in order to be better prepared for any eventualities.

Speaker
R Jayabalan (Chairperson, Joint Working Committee on ELEVATE)
R Jayabalan graduated with a Bachelor of Law (LLB Hons) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (“IIUM”) in 1996 and obtained his post-graduate Master in Business Administration (“MBA”) from IIUM in 2004. Jayabalan was admitted as advocate and solicitor to the High Court of Malaya in 1997. He has been in active practice since then, conducting litigation in various courts. His firm, Messrs R. Jayabalan, is based in Johor Bahru. Apart from litigation, Jayabalan also conducts arbitration and dispute resolution. Jayabalan’s main area of practice is professional negligence, industrial relations and employment law, general tort, contract / commercial law, insurance and banking law, land and strata laws and administrative law, amongst others. He also actively writes and speaks on various issues of law and procedure and on issues concerning legal practice in the country. Jayabalan is currently the Treasurer of the Malaysian Bar and also the Johore Bar Representative to the Bar Council. He has served as Chairman of the Johore Bar. He currently chairs the Bar Council Finance Committee and is the Chairperson of the Joint Working Committee (“JWC”) on ELEVATE of the Bar Council.
Mysahra Shawkat (Assistant Director, PI & RM Department)
Mysahra Shawkat has been working with the Bar Council for 13 years. Her current position is Assistant Director in the Professional Indemnity and Risk Management Department. She is focusing on risk management for the legal profession.
Terms and Conditions
Event Policy
Places are limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
For events with registration fees, all payments must be made in advance, including bank charges. Registration will be confirmed once proof of payment is provided by email or fax, and full payment is received.
For events that are not organised by Bar Council, please note that you are subject to the relevant terms and conditions specified by the external providers.
Cancellation
Cancellations must be made in writing.
If you have failed to inform the organiser on your cancellation for three consecutive times, you may be blacklisted for future events.
Refunds
Refunds will be processed after the event is completed. This may take up to 30 business days. The conditions for refunds are as follows:
- Full refunds will be issued if the event is cancelled or postponed by the organiser due to some circumstances.
- No refunds for this course. However substitution is allowed.
The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.
Transferral
You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details.
Attendance
CPD points will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.
Privacy
The personal information that you provide to the Bar Council, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded, stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Bar Council for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event, and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
