Description
The Bar Council Corporate and Commercial Law Committee (“CCLC”) is organising a talk entitled “Technology Development — Legal / Commercial Perspective in the UK”.
The speaker will analyse the change in regime and approach by the Government of the United Kingdom (“UK”) on the development of hydrocarbons in the UK Continental Shelf (“UKCS”) for the first time in 40 years, which coincided with the severest downturn in the industry in its 50-year history.
This talk will feature an overview of the old regulatory regime and contrast it with the new regulatory regime. The speaker will look at two new challenges for the oil and gas industry in meeting the objectives of maximising economic recovery (“MER”) and the statutory duty of collaboration: carrot and stick.
