The Bar Council National Young Lawyers and Pupils Committee is organising a practical skills session to help young lawyers better understand their professional indemnity insurance policies and the fundamentals of income tax. Description

Tunku Farik b Tunku Ismail

Tunku Farik is an advocate and solicitor of both the Malaysian and Singapore Bar, and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is a specialist in Insurance/Reinsurance and Takaful/Retakaful Law, both in terms of advisory and litigation/arbitration, and has been in practice for over 36 years. He was the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) Insurance Committee. He is listed in Who’s Who Legal Insurance & Reinsurance. He has appeared in many landmark insurance cases in both the Court Appeal and Federal Court of Malaysia. Tunku Farik was elected to the Malaysian Bar Council for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 terms and is the previous Chair of the Professional Indemnity and Arbitration committees of the Bar. He is also recognised as a Benchmark Litigation Star 2022, Notable Practitioner in Asialaw 2023 Lawyers’ Ratings and Recognised Dispute Resolution lawyer 2023 by Chambers Asia-Pacific.

 

Abhilaash Subramaniam

Abhi is the current Deputy Chair of the Tax and Customs Law Committee of the Malaysian Bar and is an elected member of the Bar Council. He is also a member of the Tax Committee of the Inter Pacific Bar Association (IPBA). He practices all areas of Tax Law with a focus on disputes and administrative challenges and has appeared for taxpayers at all levels of the Malaysian Courts. Abhi frequently conducts training for lawyers on Tax Law (including recent talks on E-Invoicing) and represents the Malaysian Bar as counsel in public interest matters related to tax and administrative law.

 

Moderator

Anishaa Sundramoorthy

Anishaa read law at King’s College London and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2019. While at university, she served as President of the King’s College Student Division of Lawyers Without Borders, which is affiliated with Lawyers Without Borders International. Anishaa was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2021. She is a litigator with Messrs Sreenevasan. Anishaa serves as an elected member of the Bar Council for the 2025/2026 term and is Co-Chair of the National Young Lawyers and Pupils Committee.

Terms and Conditions

Event Policy

Advance registration is required. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Registration for the event will close on 11 June 2025 (Wednesday), at 12:00 pm.

The event will be held in hybrid form. Physical attendance is limited to 40 participants on a first come, first served basis. Registration for this session will close if all available slots are filled. Participants are encouraged to join online via Zoom.

Please note that there will be no changes of the method of attendance once you had registered.

For events with registration fees, all payments must be made in advance, including bank charges. Registration will be confirmed once full payment is received and proof of payment is provided by email or fax.

The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.

Cancellation 

Cancellations must be made in writing.

Substitutions are allowed. Kindly inform us in writing with the relevant details at least three days in advance.

If you have failed to inform the organiser of your cancellation for three consecutive times, you maybe blacklisted for future events.

Transferral

You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details at least three days in advance.

Attendance 

CPD points for CPD Scheme will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.

Privacy 

The personal information that you provide to the Malaysian Bar, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded, stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Malaysian Bar for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event, and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
