Webinar [RE-RUN SESSION] Stamp Duty and Real Property Gains Tax Developments: Seize the Opportunity to Earn More Legal Fees!

The Bar Council Tax and Customs Committee will be organising a re-run webinar to brief Members of the Malaysian Bar on the latest developments relating to stamp duty and Real Property Gains Tax (“RPGT”). With the Government introducing key changes, including the transition to the Self-Assessment System (“SAS”) and updates to exemption and compliance requirements, this session will provide a clear and practical overview of these developments for legal practitioners.

Description

The Bar Council Tax and Customs Committee will be organising a re-run webinar to brief Members of the Malaysian Bar on the latest developments relating to stamp duty and Real Property Gains Tax (“RPGT”). With the Government introducing key changes, including the transition to the Self-Assessment System (“SAS”) and updates to exemption and compliance requirements, this session will provide a clear and practical overview of these developments for legal practitioners.

The session will also include a walk-through of the new STAMPS portal, highlighting navigation tips, common pitfalls and best practices for filing and compliance. This practical segment will help practitioners in using the system with confidence to manage transactions and advise clients more effectively.

This talk is free of charge for Members of the Bar, pupils in chambers and their office staff only. A registration fee of RM100 per person will apply to in-house counsel. For further details, please email vanimalar@malaysianbar.org.my.

Speaker

Anand Raj has been in practice since 1996 and has been a partner at Shearn Delamore & Co. since 2003. He currently serves as the Head of the Tax Disputes Practice.

Anand is ranked by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific (2019–2025) as a “Leading Individual” in Tax and has been included in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific’s “Hall of Fame” for Tax (2025). Lexology (2025) recognised Anand as “Recommended” in Corporate Tax – Controversy and Southeast Asia – Corporate Tax. Anand was also recognised as a “Band 1 Lawyer” in Tax by Chambers and Partners (2026). Asia Business Law Journal (2020–2024) recognised Anand as one of Malaysia’s Top 100 Lawyers in Tax Disputes and Controversy. Asialaw Client Service Excellence (2021) recognised Anand as “The Highest Rated Lawyer to Work With” in Tax. He was also recognised as Asia Tax Disputes and Litigation Practice Leader of the Year 2017 by the ITR. Asialaw Leading Lawyers (2020–2024) recognised Anand as an “Elite Practitioner” in Tax. Anand is also recognised as a “Highly Regarded Practitioner” in Indirect Tax and Tax Controversy (2019–2022, 2025), as well as “Highly Regarded” in World Transfer Pricing (“TP”) (2023–2025) by ITR. Anand has also been recognised by Benchmark Litigation Asia Pacific 2025 as a “Litigation Star”.

Anand has acted in numerous leading tax cases, disputes involving legal privilege before the Federal Court, Superior Court matters and matters involving multinational corporations, government-linked companies and commercial entities.

Anand currently serves as the Vice-President of the Malaysian Bar. He is the Chairperson of the Bar Council Tax and Customs Committee. He was the former Chair of the International Fiscal Association (“IFA”), Malaysia.

Abhilaash Subramaniam is the current Deputy Chairperson of the Bar Council Tax and Customs Committee and an elected member of the Bar Council. He is also a member of the Tax Committee of IPBA.

Abhilaash practises in all areas of tax law with a focus on disputes and administrative challenges, and has appeared for taxpayers at all levels of the Malaysian courts.

Abhilaash frequently conducts training for lawyers on tax law, including recent talks on E-Invoicing, and represents the Malaysian Bar as counsel in public interest matters related to tax and administrative law.

Noelle Low Pui Voon is a partner at Halim Hong & Quek, where she leads the firm’s Corporate Real Estate, Corporate / M&A and Banking and Finance practice groups. She regularly advises on complex property and financing transactions, including acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, and banking facilities, acting for developers, financial institutions, investors and corporates across a wide range of industries.

 

 

 

Terms and Conditions

Event Policy

Admission is free for Members of the Bar and pupils, but advance registration is required. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The registration for this session will close on 21 Jan 2026 (Wednesday), at 12:00 pm.

The organiser reserves the right to modify, cancel or postpone the event, should circumstances arise that make such action necessary, whereupon all registration fees paid will be refunded.

Cancellation

Cancellations must be made in writing. Please note that there will be no refunds for cancellations, but substitutions are allowed. Kindly inform us in writing with the relevant details at least three days in advance. If you have failed to inform the organiser on your cancellation for three consecutive times, you may be blacklisted for future events.

Transferral

You are allowed to transfer your place to another participant, but you must notify the organiser with the necessary details at least three days in advance.

Attendance

CPD points for CPD Scheme will not be awarded to lawyers and pupils in chambers from Peninsular Malaysia who arrive more than 15 minutes late, are not present throughout the event, or leave before its scheduled end.

The personal information that you provide to the Malaysian Bar, whether now or in the future, may be used, recorded, stored, disclosed or otherwise processed by or on behalf of the Malaysian Bar for the purposes of facilitation and organisation of this event, research and audit, maintenance of a participant database for the promotion of this event, and such ancillary services as may be relevant.
