Called to the Bar in September 1997. He set up practice as sole proprietor, Jayamurugan Vadivelu & Partners. He has been in practice for 20 years. Previously, he was with the police force for 25 years. He was a senior police officer cum police prosecutor & Investigator.
He was also a clerical officer with Bank Negara Malaysia for five years. He handles mostly criminal litigation cases.
